Kents are nearing. I'm booking in Long Course sessions whenever I can. Everyone counts.
On the 3rd of January, I walked up to the LAC ready to go again. It felt like home. I had missed it.
Disaster Strikes
But as soon as we walked in, disaster struck. A massive queue was in front of the reception desk. Apparently the scanner wasn't working, so everybody had to enter manually.
Even though I was late and annoyed, I got straight into the pool and started the warm-up.
The Session
Using the list of things to do on my water bottle, cleverly created by my dad, I banged out the list until something unexpected happened. Two older swimmers came and jumped into my lane.
At first, I thought, "NO! They're going to mess up my flow," but then I made a plan. Since there was only one swimmer in the lane next to me, I jumped into that one. Free at last!
The Challenge
You might be thinking, "Wasn't anything hard?" Well, there was one thing: a 50 fly sprint!
I had a great underwater, a great breakout, and a great stroke, but at the end, it felt as if I was choking. The reward was worth it, though - a 38 without dive and race day fuel! Definitely worth it.
The Finish
At the end, I went back to the changing village (perfect) and I thought to myself: that was a solid session.
As I went to get changed, I saw two Greenwich Royals swimmers and a coach. Guess I'm not the only one preparing for Kent.
