I've been doing Friday morning Performance sessions for a while now - they're group sessions with Performance and Development swimmers mixed together. But tonight was different. Tonight was my first official Performance C only session.
Walking In
Walking up to the Glass Mill, I was apprehensive. All the big dogs were there - even Kai man. I was scared. I was scared out of my boots.
As soon as I heard the warm-up - 400, 300, 200, 100, one stroke each length, which I've only done in one of the hardest sessions I've ever done - I knew this was on a whole other level.
The Session
Smashed. Dived into the pool, knowing that whatever came after, it wouldn't be like the time that I did over 600m of fly in one session.
But what I didn't know - torture was coming.
When Ted said 8x100, I was like, "Well, there goes my will to keep on going." But I pushed on through it anyway.
Now you might be thinking, "8x100? That's easy." But it was on 1:45. At first, I was getting 15 seconds rest. But that slowly diminished into only 6 seconds as I got more tired, and more tired, and more tired.
I finally completed it and dropped into the pool. Very tired.
The Finish
Jumped out. We finished with some dives. And you know what I said? I said to myself, "That was not too bad. I could do this." Excellent. First Performance C session: Done. ✓
